First aid was given to a woman before she was rushed to a nearby healthcare facility with serious injuries. The Toronto Police commend a group of bystanders who go in pursuit of the driver in a so-called hit-and-run Thursday morning and those who executed the necessary basic first aid measures.
A dump truck driver has been accused of hitting a pedestrian close to the intersection of Bloor Street West and South Kingsway before 8 AM. The driver was later arrested after leaving his vehicle some 3.5 kilometers from the site of the collision.
The investigators report that a group of TTC employees and construction workers directed them to the location of the suspect.
Tracking down the culprit
The witnesses in the area inform the police that the pedestrian was dragged by the truck after being hit. The TTC crew working in the area stopped what they were doing to help.
There were no second thoughts and guesses and when they saw someone who needed help, they had to act.
While some of the TTC workers perform first aid care to the victim who sustained serious injuries, others hopped into their vehicles to chase down the truck as it left the scene. They followed the truck to the site close to Park Lawn Road and The Queensway where they cornered the suspect on the road.
At that point, the police report that the suspect jumped out of the truck and ran away.
Start of the chase
The TTC workers followed, passing by a group of construction workers in a parking lot. The TTC employees informed them of what happened, and the construction workers joined the chase.
The group went after the driver into a neighboring ravine and called the police. The officers shortly arrived and arrested the man who was in the water at the base of the gully.
It simply shows that the citizens of Toronto will certainly move up action when needed. Along with the skills and knowledge from a first aid course, it is an indispensable tool during emergencies.
The necessity of first aid training
During emergencies, you should be knowledgeable on basic first aid skills. You must enroll in first aid and CPR course to be prepared. You never know when emergencies occur and where.
