Regina first aid

Newcomer to Regina rescues man from drowning, attempts to save another

A man who migrated to Canada from Egypt saved the life of a Regina student who was drowning at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park.

Mohamed Elzeldin Mohamed was at the park with his friends for a barbeque. They heart a woman shouting for help and ran to the beach.

Dangers in the water

The victim was given CPR. Sadly, it was not enough to save him.

Upon reaching the beach, 2 men were in the water in drastic need of assistance. Mohamed and his friends acted. According to Mohamed, he can swim and tried to do what he can. He feels that it is a duty for every man to help whenever needed, especially if it can help save a life.

The friends were successful in saving one of the men who was still kicking when they got there, but the other was already presumed dead.

What is the cause?

The 35-year old man from Regina was ensnared in a net and cannot get his legs out. By the time the first man was brought to the shore with the assistance of someone on a jet ski, the second man sunk beneath the surface.

After pulling him from the water, the group called for emergency assistance. Without a defibrillator, there was not much he can do at that point. The police arrived on the scene 15 minutes later followed by the Stars air ambulance.

The victim was given CPR. Sadly, it was not enough to save him. According to Mohamed, all parks in the province must always have emergency responders and lifesaving equipment on hand especially during the summer weekends.
