‘I completely stopped breathing’: P.E.I. woman thankful to nurse to saved her life

If not for the rapid response of an off-duty nurse, a woman would not be alive today. Laurie Ouellette, 57-years old was with your husband visiting family.

Blue

While at a table, Ouellette’s head bobbed and her chin touched the chest. It was then that her head struck the table while turning blue in a short while.

Ouellette was positioned on the floor while Ferrari executed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to restore breathing.

Her husband yelled for someone to call emergency assistance. Luckily, an off-duty nurse, Amanda Ferrari was also at the restaurant. Ouellette was positioned on the floor while Ferrari executed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to restore breathing. It was later learned by Ouellette that she suffered a cardiac arrest due to a clogged artery.

Cardiac arrest

The emergency medical services arrived at the scene after 10-15 minutes after receiving a call. Ouellette was sure that the intervention of the nurse saved her life.

She stayed in the healthcare facility up to a week. She was under life support for half of the duration.

Ouellette is encouraging everyone to enroll in a CPR course just to be prepared to help when similar cases occur.
