Good Samaritans on the rescue

At the time of the incident, King and her daughter exited Tim Horton’s restaurant and walked across the parking lot and started to cross the street. While crossing Brunswick Blvd., her daughter who was hurrying along in the rain heard her mother call out her name. When she turned, King already collapsed to the pavement.

It was then 2 strangers intervened – a husband and wife. They were in the first car that stopped at the red light at the intersection. The man jumped out of the vehicle and ran to King. After checking, King was not breathing. The man called out for his wife who was a nurse and started CPR. Several calls to 911 were made while a bystander held an umbrella over them to protect against the rain. King was unconscious and the nurse continued CPR. Another woman from the nearby YMCA also helped with CPR. In no time, the Urgences Sante ambulance arrived.

King was transported to Sacre Coeur hospital where she stayed unconscious for up to 2 days. She underwent an operation to have a defibrillator installed.

As she recovers, she is looking forward to returning to her home at the Villa Beaurepaire where the residents make up her extended family. She keeps on thinking of the couple who rushed to help her on that rainy afternoon.
