Child who died outside hockey game received CPR

An 11-year old boy was given CPR after he collapsed and died outside a junior hockey game. A Vancouver Island family is looking for answers after their son died.

Caleb Kroffat, 11-years old, died suddenly while attending the Cowichan Capitals junior hockey game with family. Renee Kroffat, the boy’s mother stated that it does not make sense why the incident occurred.

Caleb was found unresponsive by the visiting team’s bus driver just outside the rink. The training staff rushed to help with a defibrillator and performed CPR, but the young boy was declared dead a short time later at hospital.

David Vandeventer of the Cowichan Capitals stated that the team doctor was involved along with the team trainer. They quickly responded to the emergency.

Caleb had no visible injuries when he was found and his family stated that he is in good health. The police and coroner are investigating.
