The Beaumont city council voted to make face masks mandatory in all indoor publicly accessible places.
The council approved a bylaw that will see face masks and coverings mandatory in indoor public places and vehicles starting August 14 and running until October 31. The council may pass resolutions to extend the bylaw.
According to Mayor John Stewart in a news release, wearing a face mask or covering is not just about you, it is about protecting the health of everyone in the community.
Children below two years old will be exempted from the rule. Children below five who refuse to wear a mask will not be forced to do so. People with a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask will be exempt.
Face masks or coverings are not necessary if you are sitting in a restaurant, bar, or other premises that serve food and drink. People do not need to cover their faces if they are exercising.
