Young boy was given CPR

A young boy who died after found dead outside a hockey rink was given CPR on Vancouver Island. The Cowichan Capitals were playing the Victoria Grizzlies in a minor league game in Duncan when the boy was found.

Unforeseen ordeal at hockey rink

The police stated that the Grizzlies’ team bus driver spotted the boy laying unresponsive on the ground. The medical staff from both BCHL teams rushed to help with a defibrillator and performed CPR but the boy died a short time later in a hospital.

David Vandeventer, a spokesperson for the Cowichan Capitals stated that the medical staff attempted to help the boy to no avail. A team doctor and team trainer were at the scene.

The police did not believe that the death has a criminal nature and the B.C. Coroner’s Service declined comment until after the weekend.
