uOttawa medical students find a new way to support the frontline workers

The medical students are the University of Ottawa are volunteering their time, calling on businesses and community members to donate unused medical supplies. This action is a way to support the front-line health care workers.

Based on an update, they have managed to collect more than two thousand face masks and 60,000 pairs of gloves in just three days.

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a significant shift in the way medical students learn. Classes are now online, meetings with educators are via email and there are no patient rounds in the hospital.

More than 140 students from the medical program stepped up, creating lists of businesses, making calls, and coordinating pick-up times for people who have made donations. The medical students realize the importance of ensuring enough medical supplies for health care workers.

The students are calling on shuttered business who would carry personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, gowns, face masks, hand sanitizer, wipes, and viral swab test kits to donate the items.
