When onboard Transport Canada, children 2 to 5 years of age no longer need to wear a mask if cannot tolerate wearing one.
The company discreetly adjusted the mandatory age for children wearing face masks while onboard planes from 2 to 6 years old. It was a decision they had to make after two instances in which toddlers were denied in domestic flights for not wearing a face mask.
In the past months, Transport Canada requires passengers at the age of 2 and up to wear a face mask while onboard to limit the spread of COVID-19.
In the latest guidelines, children ages 2 to 5 are not required to wear a mask if cannot tolerate wearing one. Nevertheless, parents should still bring one along.
The new rules were a response to the “updated guidance” from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) which complied with the latest recommendations by the World Health Organization (WHO).
It has been advised by the WHO that children below 6 years of age are not required to use a mask. It is based on the safety and interest of the child as well as the capacity to wear a mask properly with minimal assistance.
