CPR saves the life of a man who had a heart attack while on a treadmill

A man was given a second chance in life after his collapse. The 42-year old man supports CPR training and accessibility to AEDs in public areas. His viewpoint was changed after suffering a heart attack while running at Crunch, formerly called World Gym. Luckily, a stranger came to the rescue.

Timely assistance

The man was saved by the quick delivery of CPR by a stranger. The stranger turns out to be a trained lifeguard. He has not performed CPR in real life. He delivered CPR during the first minutes.

When the firefighters arrived on the scene, they took over with the life-saving measures. After 35 minutes without a pulse and a third shock from an AED, his pulse was restored.

As a former competitive bodybuilder, the man remembers getting on a treadmill and started a run, but cannot remember what happened.

Immediate delivery of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can save a life.

The man is grateful for the person who saved his life as well as the firefighters and EMS personnel. With timely CPR and an AED, it saved his life.

First aid and CPR training are also important in the home environment. Most take courses as a workplace requirement. However, in reality, most cases that require the life-saving procedure often occur at home.

When CPR is quickly started, it provides a person with a 28% chance to survive. CPR supplemented by an AED can significantly improve the chances or survival.

Why first aid training is vital

First aid and CPR training are generally for the home environment since most situations occur often at home. The first few moments are the most vital to start CPR. Prompt initiation of CPR provides the individual with a higher chance of survival. If used with a defibrillator, the chances for survival drastically increases.
