A veteran firefighter was given CPR after hit by a pickup truck. The incident occurred near his home. Condolences are pouring in for a long-time Delta firefighter Mark Janson who died after hit by a pickup truck on a rural Langley road.

Road accident claimed a life

The accident occurred in the 5700 block of 240 Street where 54-year old Janson was out taking his dog for a walk when a Ford F350 pickup driven by a 24-year old man hit him.

According to Langley RCMP, the victim was dressed in dark clothing and had been walking northbound in the middle of the road. There are no street lights in the area and it was a particularly dark night with light rain falling at the time of the accident.

The police stated that the driver remained at the scene and along with other passersby, performed CPR on the injured man until the paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to a healthcare facility where he was declared dead.

The driver was cooperative with the investigators and described as extremely distraught. Neither alcohol or speed are contributing factors in the collision.
