Regular bus service to resume in Edmonton at end of August

The bus service will return to pre-pandemic levels in Edmonton at the end of August in time for students to go back to school.

All of its 450 operators that were temporarily laid off amid the pandemic will receive recall notices by the end of the week and full bus service will resume on August 30.

The number of people taking transit is still around half of what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic. The city moved to a Saturday schedule and halted some bus routes to give workers more time to clean buses and as ridership dropped to around 22 percent in March. Transit was free from the end of March to mid-June.

U-Passes will not be issued to post-secondary students this year since most classes are being offered online. Instead, the youth pass will be extended to people ages 24 and below. There are also discounted ticket books available.
