Pedestrian hit by commercial truck given CPR

A pedestrian who was bit by commercial truck was given CPR. A 22-year old man is in critical condition after being hit by a box truck in Pitt Meadows. It was a terrible accident that was witnessed by his partner.

Dangers on the road

The accident occurred on the Lougheed Highway near Harris Road where the couple had been trying to catch a taxi.

According to Ridge Meadows RCMP, it appears that the victim was jaywalking when the truck hit him. According to Sgt. Brenda Gresiuk, the man was on the north side of Lougheed Highway and attempting to cross over to the south side to catch a cab when he was hit by a 5-ton truck.

Two witnesses, Matt Burnett and Jeremy Scholing heard a loud bang coming from the roadway. They ran over to find the victim unconscious with a Halloween mask on the ground beside him.

The Good Samaritans helped the pedestrian’s girlfriend, called 911 and performed CPR before the arrival of the paramedics. The victim was breathing when he was transported to a healthcare facility.

According to Gresiuk, the response of the bystanders were instrumental in the survival of the man. The cause of the accident is still under investigation but the truck driver remained at the scene and police stated that all parties are cooperating.
