Man who died in Kelowna RCMP’s lockup given CPR

A man who died in Kelowna RCMP’s lockup was given CPR. The British Columbia’s police watchdog is investigating after a man died in Kelowna’s RCMP’s lockup.

Under investigation

Based on a release from the B.C. RCMP, a 40-year old man was taken to a healthcare facility after a vehicle hit a tree in Kelowna. It was stated that the man was cleared by the hospital staff and taken to a holding cell where he was found unresponsive.

According to RCMP, the officers initiated CPR and the paramedics responded, but the man was declared dead. The identity of the man and cause of death has not been released.

The Independent Investigations Office which probes all deaths or serious injuries involving police is looking into the case.
