Inadequate first aid services and kits at the Extreme Air Park

Extreme Air Park is the largest trampoline park in Canada. People complain that the first aid services of the park are inadequate especially for injuries of children. In one incident a little girl broke her leg at the park. First aid services for the girl are inadequate and staffs of the park do not have a first aid kit.

People also complained that the staff of Extreme Air Park located in New Westminster, BC and Langley are not properly trained to provide first aid and not properly equipped with first aid kits.

Lack of safety protocols

The leg of the little girl was broken and a fractured ankle. The condition become severe after the fall and staff of the park applied an ice pack on the affected area. The little girl was with her father when the accident happened.

First aid
Proper first aid training and first aid kits are vital in any business establishment.

According to the spokesperson of Extreme Air Park, they are not responsible for the injury of the girl. A video taken from the park shows, the father is “double bouncing” the girl which is not allowed in the park for safety reasons.

Another incident happened in Extreme Air Park in Langley. The hand of the boy was accidentally slammed in a door. The mother of the boy is an instructor in occupational Level 1 first aid and an emergency medical responder. According to the mother of the boy, the first aid kit of the park is not properly stocked. The kit is filled with tensor tapes, inadequate first aid supplies and band aids.  Gauze is not included in the kit. She has to stop the bleeding and gauze is not available. The concerned mother complained to the management of the Extreme Air Park in Langley about the situation in the area through an email. The spokesperson of the park responded that all the personnel and staff of the park have proper certification from first aid training and are trained for high standards of first aid and the kits are also properly stocked or “up to standard”.

Importance of first aid kits

Still unsatisfied she contacted other Consumer Protection Agencies in the city, neither federal or provincial governments and none of these bodies have control over the safety of these trampoline parks.

According to Korpela, the mother of the boy, if this area were a ski hill, the area should have ski patrol and if this is a swimming pool, there should be a lifeguard on watch. Possible accidents can happen anytime in these areas and to how to respond to these emergencies is very important.

Extreme Air Park has offered to work with government in developing guidelines for the safety of the park. Trampoline parks are safe for children and adults as long as the rules and regulations are properly followed.
