Enforcement of mandatory masks unnecessary

The chief medical officer of health in Nova Scotia defended the decision of the province to enforce the new mandatory face mask rule, stating that a strong compliance and enforcement approach is no longer needed for people to do the right thing.

The order was announced which required people to wear non-medical masks in most public indoor spaces.

Although the province has no fine structure in place for people who do not comply with the rule, a ticket of up to $1,000 could be issued under the Health Protection Act order.
