This requirement comes nearly a month after the warehouse outlet announced that it would not be implementing a mask policy.
The Costco shoppers throughout Canada are being asked to wear non-medical face masks, as the mega-retailer becomes one of the first of its size to implement the measure to curb the possible spread of COVID-19. Similar policies were introduced at Costco locations throughout the border on May 4.
In recent days, public health officials clarified the concerns on whether Canadians should or should not wear non-medical masks in public. According to a healthcare expert, masks or face coverings must be worn in public areas, but they will not substitute for physical distancing or proper hand hygiene.
In a statement that Costco posted on its website, children below the age of two or individuals who cannot wear a mask due to a medical condition are exempted.
According to the CEO of the company, the face mask policy, and other measures have been implemented for a single purpose to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of Costco employees and members.
