People who are flying to and from Canadian airports are required to wear masks in the latest move by transport officials to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Passengers will not be allowed to board their flight unless they have non-medical face coverings.
Travelers should wear their masks while at screening checkpoints and when they cannot physically distance at least six feet apart from others.
The wearing of masks is being encouraged for passengers on ferries, boats, trains, and buses but is not being made mandatory by Transport Canada.
Canadians must continue to follow public health advice and stay at home if possible. If there is a need to travel, wearing a face-covering is an additional measure to protect others, especially in scenarios where physical distancing guidelines cannot be maintained.
COVID-19 is a respiratory condition that has no cure or vaccine. It spreads from an infected individual to others when they cough, sneeze or expel droplets. Health officials urged the public to avoid using N95 or medical-grade masks as they are in short supply for healthcare workers.
People can use non-medical masks but should not replace physical distancing or regular hand washing. Those who feel sick must stay at home and away from others.
Wearing a non-medical cloth mask or face covering is useful in containing your own droplets, but it will not protect you from COVID-19, nor is wearing one required of you if you can maintain a safe distance from others.
