The city police are investigating a sudden death at Edmonton Remand Centre. According to Staff Sgt. Angela Kemp, the officers were called to jail as a response to the death of a male inmate.
Death within the cell
At around 10 AM, a male inmate was discovered to be unresponsive in his cell. The staff immediately performed CPR before the arrival of the EMS who took over. According to Alberta Justice spokesman Brendan Cox, the man was later pronounced dead at the scene.
He added that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the case along with the Edmonton police. An internal review will be conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future.
