The victims of a separated weekend collision were given first aid care. Six people were killed on separate incidents. A minivan collided with a motorhome near Cremona which resulted to the death of 63-year old driver and his 88-year old male passenger. Cremona Fire also extricated an 84-year old woman from the van who was airlifted to Calgary.
Weekend collisions
The three people were related and from Calgary according to Didsbury Cpl. Warren Wright. The southbound minivan crossed over into the northbound lane of Highway 22 before colliding with the motorhome. The driver of the motorhome was not injured. It remains unclear why the minivan crossed into the oncoming lane but weather and road conditions are not believed to be contributing factors. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the crash and the roof of the minivan was shorn off.
An hour later near Fort Macleod, a car side-swiped an SUV on Highway 3. The passenger in the SUV, a man in his 50s died at the scene and the adult driver was transported to a healthcare facility with non-life threatening injuries. An 18-year old man driving the car was also taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
On early Saturday morning, the Sylvan Lake RCMP responded to a single-vehicle ATV collision where they found an ATV on its side in the ditch. The RCMP located the driver, a severely injured 55-year old man, 100 meters from the ATV. Despite CPR, the man was declared dead at the scene.
