A man under RCMP custody died despite CPR. This prompted an investigation by the British Columbia’s police watchdog.
Based on a release from the B.C. RCMP, a 40-year old man was taken to a healthcare facility after a vehicle struck a tree in Kelowna. It was stated that the man was cleared by the hospital staff and taken to a holding cell in the police station where he was later found unresponsive.
According to RCMP, the officers initiated CPR and the paramedics responded but the man was declared dead. The identity and cause of death of the man was not released.
The Independent Investigations Office which investigates all deaths or serious injuries involving the police is checking the case.
Prompt delivery of CPR
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an important life-saving skill. It should be performed right away to improve the chances of survival. Although not all cases yield a positive outcome, it is better to perform the technique than doing nothing at all.
