Snowmobiler given CPR after avalanche

A 34-year old snowmobiler who was involved in an avalanche was given CPR. The incident occurred in B.C.’s interior. Sadly, the snowmobiler died.

Deadly avalanche

Gordon Molendyk of the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP detachment stated that the man succumbed to his injuries at Kelowna General Hospital. The investigation has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service.

The man had been buried in several meters of snow while snowmobiling near the Keefer Lake resort near Cherryville.

The Vernon Search and Rescue, RCMP and ambulance crews were called to Goldpanner campground east of Lumby. The emergency service people at the resort and the friends of the man helped pull him out. The emergency crews performed CPR before airlifting him to a healthcare facility in Kelowna.

During emergencies, prompt delivery of the appropriate first aid measures can save a life. One of these vital skills is cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) that significantly improves the chances of survival during emergencies.
