Several school divisions are going to receive millions of face masks.
Benchmark PPE, a company in Saskatoon was given a government contract that will allow them to supply 18,000 face shields and 4 million disposable face masks for schools in Saskatchewan.
The company started shipping out face masks and shields to 27 school divisions and 26 independent schools. Additional shipments are on the way throughout the week. The order is sufficient to supply every school-based staff member with a face shield.
This is the third time that the government ordered PPE for staff and students since the start of the pandemic. In the previous months, the government ordered 8.4 million disposable face masks and 28,000 face shields for schools.
The Ministry of Education in Saskatchewan is also searching for a suitable company to create 210,000 non-medical cloth masks for distribution in early 2021.
