Patients reunite with heart-starting first responders who saved their lives

Richard Tyczkowski could not remember anything from April 20, 2017 but those who saved his life do.

It was on that day that Tyczkowski had his 6th heart attack. He was kept alive by his wife, firefighters, 2 neighbors and paramedics before transported to a healthcare facility.

Life extension

At the 7th yearly Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services Survivor Day, Tyczkowski had the chance to meet the people who saved his life last year. According to Tyczkowski, he had no memory of it, even his first month in the hospital. He feels fantastic to meet the EMS crews who saved him.

When his crew arrived at Tyczkowski’s house, 2 neighbors were already there and started CPR.

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services Capt. Anthony Revenberg was one of the initial responders who keep Tyczkowski alive that day. When his crew arrived at Tyczkowski’s house, 2 neighbors were already there and started CPR.

According to Revenberg, prompt execution of CPR provides a better chance at survival. He and his crew assessed Tyczkowski, took over CPR and administered oxygen. A defibrillator was attached and found what EMS calls a shockable rhythm. They delivered 2 shocks to his chest before the arrival of the paramedics.

Miracle rescue

The paramedics shocked Tyczkowski 2 more times before his heart started to beat again and started to breathe on his own. In no time, he was transported to a healthcare facility.

During the presentation, the EMS individuals referred to Tyczkowski as the “miracle man”. According to Tyczkowski, he was a very lucky man. Even his family doctor told him according to the readings.
