Man saved by MRU students donates defibrillators to school

Ayaz Kara suffered a heart attack in locker room after a squash game. A man who credits 3 Mount Royal University students for saving his life donated in hopes of saving the lives of others like him.

Defibrillators saves lives

After a squash game at the university’s courts, Ayaz Kara had a heart attack. There were 2 students trained in first aid provided CPR and utilize an automated external defibrillator (AED) to restart his heart. In appreciation, Kara donated 5 more devices to the university to help others.

An AED works by sending an electrical shock to a victim of cardiac emergencies to restart the heart. The device contains sensors that can monitor the heart activity and prompts the person using it if a shock is necessary.
