If you are going to ride on a Halifax Transit bus without a mask, the driver can advise you about the mandatory measure, but cannot prevent you from boarding.
As a result, three Halifax Transit drivers have refused to work, stating their safety is at risk because the rule has no teeth.
The mayor of Halifax stated that drivers would be getting more support. The City Hall restated its policy that nobody will be denied transit – with or without a face covering.
A top doctor of Nova Scotia stated that too many people are making the choice not to wear a mask simply because they do not want to. There is support on the street for drivers being able to prevent people from boarding without a mask.
The City Hall and the union agree on one thing – that the vast majority of people taking transit are wearing a mask.
