Two Hamilton Police officers were being recognized by paramedics for giving first aid to a little girl hit by a train in the area. The two officers were the first emergency responder to the situation. The condition of the girl was very severe. They applied a tourniquet on the injured leg to lessen the bleeding before she was brought to the hospital.
Saving a life
According to the officers, within three to four minutes of the dispatched call, we were the first to arrive on the scene before the emergency medical services. They made a quick response by applying first aid to the girl and there were about four other children around the area. They applied a tourniquet on the affected leg of the girl to give a little pressure to lessen the bleeding. It could likely save the life of the little girl.
Before the accident, the girl along with her friends was playing along the tracks. There is a possibility that the children attempted to jump onto the train that was running in slow speed. The child feel on the tracks and the train ran over the legs causing severe injuries. The girl is transported to the children’s hospital to undergo surgery.
The place where the accident happened is in Councilor Matthews Green’s ward. According to Ward, one of the historical features of the place is that there are plenty of old industrial rail tracks that are bisecting within the neighborhood. This kind of accident rarely happens, but very tragic when it happens.
Community concern
According to Ward, the neighborhood that includes the parents, families and schools should work together for being aware of the tracks and safety of every individual in the community. The basic priority is education for the community for safety purposes.
