There are at least two cruise ships with reported COVID-19 outbreaks. The cruise ship industry is bringing in strict measures after the top doctor in the country warned Canadians against going on cruise ships as COVID-19 continues to spread.
The Canadian and Northwest chapter of Cruise Lines International Association stated that the measures include improved screening protocols and denying boarding to passengers and crew who had traveled to specific countries within 14 days of boarding. The countries from which passengers will be denied include Iran, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, and any area in Italy subject to lockdown measures.
All passengers will have their temperatures assessed once they board and those who have traveled from Japan will undergo symptom history checks for cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. Those who have a temperature over 38 F will receive a medical assessment.
At least two cruise ships have reported COVID-19 outbreaks in recent weeks. The Diamond Princess had 355 out of 3,500 passengers infected where 15 are Canadians who were repatriated and quarantined at a military base.
