A 64- year old man who suffered a heart attack was given CPR. The incident occurred in the stands as the Ottawa Senators took on the Montreal Canadians. According to the Ottawa paramedics, the man would not have survived if fellow fans did not rush to help.
According to Lori Vanderlinden, she thought there was a fight going on because people were yelling. A man sitting nearby slumped over in his seat. She ran over to the man and started CPR. The man did not have a pulse and was non-responsive.
Vanderlinden was assisted by a physician who shared that there were a lot of people nearby who also knew CPR and were ready to help. The physician shared that the most amazing thing was how many people were willing to help and how many people know CPR and how quickly the medical staff arrived.
Upon the arrival of the paramedics, they administered resuscitative drugs and delivered a shock with a defibrillator before transporting the man to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital. According to the Ottawa paramedic spokesman, before the man was brought down to the vehicle for transportation to the hospital, he had regained a pulse at that time. He was still unconscious but they managed to regain a pulse. The man was in critical condition at the time but improved to serious condition.
