Several teams came out for a ball hockey tournament aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of CPR training. This was brought about by an incident months ago when a local player collapsed on the rink.
A 19-year old teen who was an avid player was forced to watch the game from the sidelines after an incident. During a tournament, the teen collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. His heart stopped beating on the rink and later he stopped breathing.
A referee and three players rushed to his side and performed CPR until an ambulance arrived. The teen spent two days on life support in the hospital but is now on the road to recovery.
The organizers hope the tournament will encourage people to take CPR training. It only takes one day or a weekend course so you can save a life. The four people who helped the teen were recognized for their life-saving efforts.
Why basic first aid is vital?
In instances where you are faced with a scenario where a person needs help and there is no medical personnel around, being trained on first aid and CPR is an advantage. Enrolling in first aid and CPR course is essential.
