An Albert Bridge woman with private travel insurance would not include her medical expenses after a heart attack. This occurred during a bingo trip to Maine where she was flown to Halifax to undergo treatment.
Issues with insurance coverage
Mary Frances Campbell, 75-years old was travelling with her friends on a bus tour to Bangor when the group had a stopover in border town Calais, ME.
Her grandson, T.J. Humber from Toronto rushed to be with his grandmother at a healthcare facility in Bangor. She had a massive heart attack in her hotel room. The paramedics took 15 minutes to revive her.
She was showing a gift or something to one of her friends and she bent over to grab but she fell on the ground. The paramedics were performing CPR and able to revive her and made the decision in Calais to get a stent in her heart. But the nearest healthcare facility they trusted was in Bangor at the Eastern Maine Medical Centre.
Campbell signed up for travel insurance via Co-operators in the same manner as her previous trips. According to her family, she indicated on the insurance survey that she did not have a heart condition. The insurance company refused to cover her hospital stay as a result.
