A man who went into cardiac arrest was given CPR by Good Samaritans in Edmonton. Dragomir Vujnovic, 57-years old had joined marathons, team ultramarathons and biked more than 200 kilometers to raise money for cancer research.
Action of Good Samaritans
He was out for a run in Edmonton’s river valley. All he recalls was leaving his house and waking up 2 days later at the Mazankowski Heart Institute where doctors told him he had gone into cardiac arrest.
He collapsed nearly 5 kilometers from his house in Emily Murphy Park. Luckily, Good Samaritans stepped in and started CPR that saved his life.
Upon waking up, he was told that the survival rate is only 3% in similar cases. Vujnovic wants to be able to thank those who stepped up to help.
Vujnovic encourages others to enroll in a CPR course. It is a life-saving technique where you simply put your hands in the middle of the chest and push as hard and as fast. Mouth-to-mouth is not required. Hands-only CPR is enough to make a big difference. In addition, also make sure to call 911.
