A little girl was nearly drowned in a backyard pool was saved with CPR. The child was able to fully recover and was reunited with the man who saved her life.
Water safety
The two-and-a-half year old Brooklyn fell into the pool in Surrey, B.C. around 6 PM while her mother was answering the door at a house in the 15000-block of Devonshire Drive.
Mother Leslie Hnatiw pulled the unconscious youngster from the water after finding her floating unresponsive and facing down. Mario Knezevic, who was visiting a neighbor, ran outside when he heard the woman’s screams.
He grabbed the child and quickly started CPR on the pool deck. Hnatiw did not have CPR training. Another neighbor, a doctor, took over the compressions until an air ambulance arrived and transported the child to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
Brooklyn was released from the healthcare facility, carried out in the arms of the man who saved her life.
